Propolis – Traditional treasure from the hive
Pharmaceutical quality from the heart of nature
Propolis is one of the most prized natural products bees create, and humankind has used it for thousands of years in traditional practice. But not all propolis is equal. The production method, quality control and pharmaceutical precision are what separate an ordinary product from a professionally prepared preparation. Our propolis is not merely collected from the hives – it is expertly prepared by a Master of Pharmacy and tested in an accredited laboratory so that you receive a pure, controlled, high-quality product.
What is propolis?
Propolis is a resinous substance that bees collect from leaves and buds. Bees use it as a "glue" and disinfectant in the hive – they coat the walls with it, seal cracks and neutralise bacteria and viruses that could threaten the colony.
The name comes from the Greek words "pro" (in front of) and "polis" (city) – bees place it at the hive entrance as a first line of defence. Propolis contains over 300 different compounds: resins, wax, essential oils, flavonoids, phenolic acids, vitamins and minerals.
Why is propolis special?
Propolis has been used for centuries in folk medicine around the world – from the ancient Egyptians, who used it for mummification, through the Greeks and Romans, to traditional Serbian medicine where it was a valued remedy.
Propolis contains over 300 different compounds – flavonoids, phenolic acids, essential oils and other natural substances. It is precisely because of this complexity that bees use it to protect the hive from bacteria, viruses and fungi. Scientific studies examine its antimicrobial and antioxidant properties under laboratory conditions.
How is our propolis made?
⚕️ Pharmaceutical expertise
Our propolis is prepared by a Master of Pharmacy under strictly regulated conditions
This means that every stage of production – from collecting the propolis from the hives to the final extraction – follows pharmaceutical standards that guarantee the purity, safety and efficacy of the product.
The production process of our propolis is carefully controlled:
Production stages:
- Collection: We carefully collect propolis from our hives in Gornja Lisina during the summer months, when it is at its best.
- Cleaning: Raw propolis is cleaned by hand of mechanical impurities (bits of wood, damaged comb, bee remains).
- Extraction: A Master of Pharmacy prepares the extract using pharmaceutical alcohol under precisely controlled conditions. This process takes several weeks so that all the active ingredients are extracted.
- Filtration: The extract is carefully filtered to remove all wax particles and impurities.
- Packaging: The drops are packed in dark glass bottles with a dropper to protect them from light and allow precise dosing.
Quality control – Our guarantee
🔬 A laboratory-tested product
Our propolis drops were tested in the accredited laboratory of the Institute of Public Health in Požarevac. The results confirm that the drops are 100% natural and compliant with the Regulation on the quality of honey and other bee products ("Official Gazette of RS", no. 101/2015).
📋 Laboratory analysis results:
- ✓ Homogeneous consistency - even distribution of active substances in the solution
- ✓ Typical colour and scent of propolis - confirmation of the authenticity and quality of the raw material
- ✓ Dry matter content: 11.43% - optimal concentration of active ingredients
- ✓ No foreign matter - a pure product with no contamination
These results confirm the quality and purity of the product, as well as its compliance with regulations on the quality of bee products.
💡 Why does laboratory testing matter? Many producers put a "propolis" label on a bottle without any quality control at all. Without laboratory analysis you cannot know whether the product contains harmful impurities, whether the concentration is standardised, or even whether it is real propolis. Our testing in an accredited laboratory means you can trust what the label says and be confident in the quality of the product.
Traditional ways of using it
In folk tradition, propolis is used for oral hygiene, during the winter months, and as part of healthy living habits. The usual way of taking it is 15-20 drops in a little water or honey, 2-3 times a day, or applied locally as needed.
⚠️ Important note: People with an allergy to bee products or pollen should avoid propolis. Test your reaction on the skin before first use. Pregnant women, nursing mothers and people undergoing treatment should consult a doctor before use. This product is not a medicine and is not intended to diagnose, treat or prevent disease.
